Trump Proposes 34 Percent Cut In EPA Budget, 56% Cut In State Grants To Administer Federal Programs

President Trump Monday released his FY 2019 federal budget proposal which includes a 34 percent cut in appropriations for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency from the 2017 enacted budget levels. The changes include--
-- 50% Cut In Categorical Grants To States: The proposed $597 million appropriation for state categorical grants (page 104) to administer state programs would be a reduction from the FY 2017 appropriation of $1.066 billion-- a 56 percent cut;
-- Programs Eliminated: Indoor Air and Radon Programs, Marine Pollution, National Estuary Programs. Environmental Education program, Beaches Program, Climate Change Research and Partnership Programs-- savings estimated at $600 million.
-- Fee-Funds Energy Star Program: The Energy Star Program would be funded with fees on product labels.
